A ‘Captain Obvious’ video (obviously!) :D

Hey all!

Here’s a quick prototype vid for Captain Obvious!

I’ll let Shaz from Honeytribe Studios fill you in!

Developed during Game Hack 2012, a 24 hour game jam held at Pinewood Studios in the UK April 28th-29th.

24 hours may not seem like a lot of time to make a game. And you’re right, it isn’t. So we’re going to work on the game some more before we let it roam free in the app store jungle.

Developers:
Quantum Sheep: www.quantum-sheep.com
Honey Tribe Studios: www.HoneyTribeStudios.com
Old Kipper

So we started a game…

And in 24 hours came nowhere near to finishing it!

Apparently we got honourable mentions from the Sony and BlueVia reps there! That’s so awesome (I headed home and slept for 12+ hours straight so wasn’t there at the time! I was a knackered sheepy!)

Who knows, maybe Captain Obvious will become a full game some day!

Anyway, here are some screenshots!

A big thank you to my team-mates Shaz (from honeytribestudios) and Old Kipper!

Also a big thanks to everyone involved in setting up the game hack event. It was intense, tiring, but a lorra lorra fun ‘n’ laughs were had!

Here’s a couple of shots of Captain Obvious from the gamehack event!

More later maybe, but only got about 8 hours left to finish so that’s all for now!

Hello all!

I’ve ended up at Pinewood Studios just outside London making a game in 24 hours with two other people!

Yay!

Some progress so far. Will post images when the art’s ready!

In the meantime, here’s a rather awesome pic:

Everyone in that photo is making games.

Happy Birthday ZX Spectrum :D

Posted in Air Supply, News, retro, video, youtube on April 23rd, 2012 by quantumsheep

Hey all!

As Google handily reminded me (See above) it’s a double celebration today! St. George’s day AND the 30th birthday of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum πŸ˜€

Happy Birthday my beloved friend!

The Spectrum (or ‘Speccy’ as it’s affectionately known) is my favourite machine ever (closely followed by the Super Nintendo!) πŸ™‚

I grew up with it, and it broadened my horizons, along with the arcades of the time, of what video games were, and could be.

There were plenty of arcade ports and big name games of course, just like there are now. But there was an originality to a lot of games and some had a fantastic sense of humour.

Who’d have thunk it? Games that make you laugh!

It also helped you learn and to create stuff that was in your head. It fostered bettering yourself and being creative. Something games consoles never could do until recently without a keyboard.

The first bit of code I ever finished in my life was for my ‘O’ level Computer Science class. I made an educational version of Jetpac in which you collected fuel for your ship so you could take off by answering maths questions!

I’ve come full circle a bit (apart from the maths!). Most of my games have music composed and written on a ZX Spectrum, for example. And I think you Speccy fans will enjoy Air Supply SOS (once I finish it!).

Anyway, this sums it up far better than I ever could!

Happy Birthday old friend πŸ™‚

The start of a puzzle…

Posted in Adventure, Uncategorized on March 6th, 2012 by quantumsheep

Hello all, hope you’re well!

SO…

I’ve been a busy bunny! A recent jaunt around London with my mate Jake has provided me with lots of material for projectSAMMY πŸ˜€

Yay!

Here’s a pic I took on the trip:

It’s the start of a puzzle, typically found in adventure games. You’ll just have to flip the tiles to make the complete picture.

This image is untouched of course, and I’ll need to edit stuff to it to make it ‘fit’ into the game world. But I just wanted to show where inspiration can come from, and what the raw building blocks for an adventure game can be!

Hope you like it!

Life is an adventure! :D

Hello everyone! Hope you’re well!

I feel that recently, there’s been a whiff of change in the air. And not the small kind πŸ˜‰

My friend Joe has had huge success with his adventure game, The Lost City. I recommend it – it’s lovely!

At the same time pretty much, the lovely folks at Double Fine got over $1m in funding in less than 24 hours using Kickstarter. To make an adventure game!

It’s truly wonderful to see the support for such lovely people!

It would seem pretty darn lucky that I chose this moment in time to make an adventure game with “ProjectSAMMY”. It’s coming along quite nicely, and I’ll hopefully have new stuff to show you too!

I hope people like it!

I can’t please everyone, but…

Hello everyone! Hope you’re well!

Things are getting very busy at the moment. Most of the back-end stuff for ProjectSammy is in place. I have systems set up to handle the inventory, objects, locations, feedback and puzzles. It’s really quite overwhelming at times!

Soon I’ll start actually putting the game together, which will probably take a little over a month with any luck (that’s ‘developer’ talk for TWO months!). I’ve been very productive of late but the task ahead is huge!

In other news, I just wanted to say that I do read every single review posted on iTunes, good or bad! I appreciate that complete strangers take time out of their day to let me (and others) know what they think of my efforts!

I got a really well written review the other day for .Matrixx on the iPad by a chap called ‘The Other McCoy’. It reads:

Fine gameplayDifficult one to rate. It’s a good example of the new indie golden age we have on IOS – but I’d say one of the simpler games of the sort. Graphics are minimal (but clean), sound is a retro homage (quite nice actually), and gameplay is *golden*. It’s pretty straightforward but it works well. I’m no authority but it seems quite original to me. Another thing I like about it is that it has an easy-going “just one more time” vibe even though it does get pretty busy. With some arcade games I have to be in the mood for the challenge but I can goof around with this one anytime. I was tempted to rate it 3 because of its minimal nature but the gameplay and vibe take it to 4.

Firstly, thank you so much for giving the game a chance! Just as importantly though, I’m very glad you seem to be enjoying it. It really does make my day to read reviews such as yours, sir, and I thank you, and everyone else that writes reviews, for your opinions!

Spreading fun throughout the world is my mission! I can’t please everyone of course! But by Jove I try!

Many thanks!

Another WIP shot of ProjectSAMMY :D

Posted in Adventure, App, art, Games, News on January 27th, 2012 by quantumsheep

Hello! Hope you’re well! πŸ™‚

This is the second screenshot from ProjectSAMMY. Hope you enjoy it!

I’m having a real blast making this right now! I don’t think it’ll be done before March sometime, but I’ll release more shots when I’m comfy showing them!

The pic featured, and the one before, are based (hopefully obviously!) in a crypt. That’s all I’m going to say about it!

I’m working out story details right now! If Star Wars: The Old Republic has taught me anything this past month, it’s that story is important!

I have about $200m less in my budget for ProjectSAMMY. Let’s see what I can do πŸ˜‰

Thanks for reading!
